Cosmetic Bonding

Cosmetic Bonding in Ann Arbor Mi

In those instances where porcelain veneers feel like too much of a commitment and all you want is a touch-up, we have the solution you’re looking for: cosmetic bonding. Also known as dental bonding, this procedure is straightforward, pain-free, and can be used by our Ann Arbor, MI, cosmetic dentists to correct a variety of bothersome tooth imperfections.

Here’s what you need to know about the cosmetic bonding process.

How Does Cosmetic Bonding Work?

Before we get started, our dentists will consult a shade guide to ensure we are accurately matching the color of the composite resin (tooth-colored material) to your natural enamel. Once the right shade is selected, it’s time to begin!

In order for the resin to quite literally bond to your tooth, there will need to be preparation ahead of time. That means roughening the tooth’s surface and applying a blue conditioning liquid on top. Both of these steps allow for the composite material to grab hold and stick like it should.

After the tooth has been prepared, our dentists will place, shape, and smooth the resin. We’ll then cure the applied resin under a special light to guarantee it is hardened and fully set. Following curing, we’ll double check that the shape of your treated tooth fits in with those around it and doesn’t negatively impact your bite.

A quick polish at the end will only enhance your tooth’s appearance and give it a natural look. All in all, you can expect the procedure to take 30-60 minutes, but this depends on how many teeth you’re having bonded and the level of repairs being made.

Notable Benefits of Cosmetic Bonding

When directly compared to other similar forms of cosmetic dental treatment, bonding does stand out in terms of patient advantages. One such benefit is its versatility as bonding can be used to treat chipped, cracked, gapped, and discolored teeth.

Cosmetic bonding also:

  • Is minimally invasive and doesn’t involve much if any enamel removal unlike veneers or dental crowns
  • Costs less than some other related procedures
  • Can be completed in one visit to our Ann Arbor dental office
